Questions you might have before you come to Agape Yoga & Fitness:

Q1.What do I need to bring to my first class at Agape Yoga & Fitness?

A.You will need a yoga mat, a towel, water and an open mind.

Q2.  I am not very flexible. Will I still able to do yoga?

A.Through your breath to movement flow, you will bring heat into your body.  This heat, along with the extra heat in some of the heated classes, will allow you to become more flexible and go a little deeper into your postures.

Q3.  Why am I supposed to refrain from eating 2 hours before coming to yoga?

A.It is important to make sure that you have given your body enough time to digest your last meal because in yoga, we practice poses that twist from side to side, bend forward and back and sometimes upside down.

Q4.  How often should I practice yoga?

A.If you are new to yoga, two classes a week is a good place to start.  Within a few weeks as your body gets stronger, begin to increase your practice to what your schedule allows for.

Q5. What is Vinyasa Yoga?

A. Vinyasa yoga is a practice that builds internal heat, increases stamina, strength and flexibility by synchronizing breath to movement as you powerfully flow through various sequences of postures.  This breath to movement practice connects the mind and body and helps to draw our attention inward helping us to become more aware of our experiences from moment to moment thus cultivating a more mindful practice.

Q6 What are the benefits of yoga?

A. Yoga helps to promotes healthy joints, increases strength, balance, flexibility and breath efficiency.  It helps to reduce stress and improve mental focus. It is a reflective practice that develops self-discipline.

Q7 Will yoga help tone my body?

A. In our yoga practice, we use a lot of body weight exercises that work muscles in the same way as pushups or core work.  Flowing through poses such as high to low plank, upward dog and downward dog, or holding warrior stances for extended periods of time all have a similar effect of resistance training that works to induce muscular contraction, build strength, anaerobic endurance and increase skeletal muscle size.  Consistent practice partnered up with healthy eating can definitely help to tone the body.
